Find and level books with Book Wizard. Plus, get booktalks, lesson plans, author studies, videos, and discussion guides.
Catalog the books in your library and tag them for you own personal use. This will allow you to "find" the books to go with your lessons easier!
Storyline Online
is a collection of video recordings
of children's stories being read by notable actors and actresses.
Smart Tutor is a provider of online reading and mathematics lessons for students of elementary school age. A lot of what Smart Tutor offers is only available through a subscription, but they do offer a decent amount of free mathematics and reading activities. Smart Tutor offers twenty-seven free reading activities for students in grades K through 5.
BBC has many games and activities as well as lesson plans for many subject areas. This link takes you to literacy activities sorted by topic. These are the activities suggested for ages 4 to 11.
Reading Bear is a free service that offers narrated
lessons on recognizing and pronouncing letters and words. There are also some lessons on prefixes and suffixes. Students can control the pace of each lesson to match their needs.

Books Should Be Free hosts hundreds of free audio books in a wide range of genres. All of the audio books in the collection are either public domain or Creative Commons works.
Listen and Read is a set of 54 non-fiction stories from Scholastic for K-2 students. The stories are feature pictures and short passages of text that students can read on their own or have read to them by each story's narrator.
Vocabulist allows users to create lists of vocabulary words and their definitions from existing text. The lists can then be exported and printed.
Rewordify allows users to simplify text for student use. Activities can easily be created and printed. This can be a very helpful tool for differentiating instruction.
GetEpic.com is a free-for-educators service that allows students to access a library of ebooks including many with audio. Teachers can create student profiles and view the time students have spent reading as well as the books they've read.
Story Place has a collection of online books and associated videos and activities for young readers.
