On Thanksgiving, Richard Byrne of www.freetech4teachers.com posted a video that showed a method for making collages interactive using PicMonkey and ThingLink. Many of us have used these tools separately, but combining them provides some additional options for projects and learning materials. Check out his video below. |

"I am grateful for what I am and have. My thanksgiving is perpetual." A couple of days ago, one of our colleagues shared some Thanksgiving resources in one of the Edmodo groups and about a day later someone from a different group shared something as well. I'm passing those resources along, as well as some links to other available Thanksgiving resources. Please pass along what you find useful.
Scholastic has many free resources including videos. Click here to check out what they have to offer. You may also wish to check out Cybraryman's Thanksgiving page by clicking here. Teachers Pay Teachers has a number of free resources which you can check out by clicking here. Share My Lesson is a great site for gathering resources. Click here to check out what they have for Thanksgiving. If you've got a site you'd like to share, please add it in the comments. Thank you! "My peers and colleagues inspire me."
"Find the good. It's all around you. Find it, showcase it and you'll start believing in it."
"The classroom should be an entrance into the world, not an escape from it."
"My theory in anything you do is to keep exploring, keep digging deeper to find new stuff." A couple of years ago, we began to pilot Google Apps For Education at the high school. It was something that had been previously explored, but never fully embraced. One of the things that came out of that pilot was the ability to add Google Chrome as an optional browser for users across the district. If anyone would like to use Chrome on a district machine, they can download and install it directly from Google and it will work. It's currently being put on the image for all new machines. Many times people have asked, "Why Chrome?" The answer most commonly given is that it's faster, even if that's not actually the case across the board.
Many would argue that a major advantage with Chrome is the ability to add browser-based apps and extensions for a variety of purposes. The Chromebook Classroom site has great resources on apps and extensions and I encourage you to check it out. If you'd like a tool to help you easily make screen casts or screen captures, I highly recommend Snagit. If you'd like a tool for having text read to you, Speakit may be for you. If you'd like a digital way to manage to-do lists complete with sharing, attaching files, and prioritizing, I recommend Symphonical. I could go on, but at this point it's probably best to let you take the reins. Visit the above-named site, download Google Chrome and go exploring. Please let me know if you'd like any further assistance and let us all know what apps/extensions you're using or of any useful apps/extensions you find. "I grow old learning something new every day." -Solon I recently had the opportunity to attend a Google Summit for two days of learning and networking. Topics ranged from very IT specific sessions on managing the Google Apps admin console to those which focused on the purposeful implementation of tools to meet instructional goals. I believe in the importance of sharing resources and knowledge so I've created a folder in my Albany City School District Google account with some resources for that purpose. Please begin with the "Start Here" document. As always, if you have any questions or comments please reach out to me, I'm happy to help.

An investment in knowledge pays the best interest. The Khan Academy has provided fantastic free resources for a number of years. They currently have an offer for grades 3-7 teachers who have not previously signed up with them. The offer could net you $500 worth of funding through Donor's Choose. Please visit the following link for more information. The deadline for signing up is April 7th.
